MANY6160

MANY6160MANY6160

MANY6160 was a project launched by Spacemarket in October last year. Since then it has evolved into an entity much greater. Located in Kings Square in Fremantle, the building that once housed Myer is now home to a vast number of designers, makers and creatives. I had the privilege of attending MANY6160‘s ‘Bloggers’ Breakfast’ last Saturday where we were given a tour of the space and the opportunity to meet some of MANY6160′s wonderful faces. The vibrant atmosphere and strong community feel are all due to MANY6160′s careful curation. Trying to support retailers as best they can, MANY6160 provides flexible lease periods, in so creating a space that is continually changing thus keeping customer experiences fresh.

The ground floor houses a diverse range of retailers covering fashion (new and vintage), homewares, shoes, accessories as well as beauty products. Here are some of the stores we visited…

KATE AND ABEL

Cafe and retail store Kate and Abel is one unique space. Warm and homely, Kate and Abel is filled with an interesting selection of homeware, giftware, art and their very own St Saviours bespoke hats! They started selling their hats in 2010 at the markets in London and within a year they were stocked in Topshop’s Oxford Street flagship store, Harvey Nichols and Anthropologie – an incredible accomplishment! You can find the perfect hat at their hat bar; have a seat and explore their vast range of shapes, colours and sizes to customise one that’s just right. Other items that caught my eye were their knitted cacti and colourful rugs. Oh, and they have an excellent magazine selection!

HUNTER STORE

One of the most recent additions to the space is Hunter Store. Fitting in perfectly, Hunter is renowned for their fabulous selection of shoes and accessories. Owner and buyer Alice Burke has a keen eye; Hunter stocks two of my favourite up and coming Australian designers; shoes by Melbourne-based Kuwaii and jewellery by Holly Ryan. Awesome beauty brand Nails Inc has also just been added to the mix!

MANY6160 - ANTIPODIUM

MANY6160 ANTIPODIUM

ANTIPODIUM

East London-based label Antipodium is the brainchild of Australian creative Ashe Peacock with whom I had the pleasure of meeting on Saturday. Antipodium is a leader in women’s fashion and notorious for quirky, on point designs. Their selection of garments in MANY6160 is cute and fun. Items I loved were the PVC skater minis and the Cry Baby Bomber in black – it has mini bows all over it! I’ve come across Antipodium in retailers here before, but with limited selection, so it is very exciting that Antipodium has a stand-alone presence here in Perth.

PIGEONHOLE

What began as a small, humble store in an arcade tucked away in Perth city, Pigeonhole has over five years expanded to five stores across Perth, Melbourne and Korea, an online store as well as a vast wholesale operation. Pigeonhole has an eclectic mix of fashion, homeware and giftware. I love perusing their home- and giftware in particular, as everything is so adorable – I always come across things I didn’t even know I needed.

MANY6160 STUDIOS

MANY6160′s second floor is the production level for all the designers and makers. There is a viewing platform (above) on the second floor for visitors to have a sneak peek. We met Andrew Christie of A Good Looking Man, artist Abdul-Rahman-Abdullah, ReSpoke and Duncan McGrath and Lachlan Brett of Dunk N Wagwell. We were given tours of their intimate work spaces…

All of the creatives that fill the space are absolutely wonderful, including the amazing man (pictured above) who frequents the space and just chills with his parrot. MANY6160 is by far one of the warmest, friendliest, harmonious retail spaces I have ever visited. Everything just works so well together – you’ll feel it as soon as you step into it.

Comme des Garçons knit & bag, Dion Lee top, Poppy Lissiman Addition skirt, Marséll shoes.

I’ve tried to layer shirts under knits in the past but have always failed. Their long sleeves always bunch up too much for my liking. This Dion Lee top is sleeveless, making it perfect for achieving the look.

This knit by Comme des Garçons kept escaping me in the past, with missed opportunities on eBay and the like, but luckily we crossed paths again. I love that the lips are mesh, so you can change up their colours by layering different colours underneath. I found it on Tokyo Ape; one of the best hidden gems on eBay for reasonably priced secondhand Comme des Garçons and Junya Watanabe. They get some great pieces in so it is worth checking.

London College of Fashion’s Barbra Kolansinki’s graduate collection is absolutely wonderful. Kolansinki’s Scottish roots are mixed into the explosion of textures, patterns and colours. There are so many elements here that would clash if not done well, however, they work so well here. This collection is so refined; every colour, fabric and detail is so perfectly placed. I would be very happy to wear any piece from this collection!
