Cuban eatery Cocina Bandito is the newest addition to the 140 Perth family. The pop-up space is cosy but bursts with colour and energy. At the launch last week guests were treated to many of Cocina Bandito’s specialty dishes alongside thirst-quenching cocktails by Cocktail Gastronomy. Everything I sampled was delicious! The pop-up is set to only be open for the next couple of months so I definitely recommend visiting before it disappears.

Cocina Bandito > 140 Perth > 140 William Street, inside the alleyway next to Forever New.

A couple of weeks ago marked my first time in South Korea. I have a long list of places to visit, and Seoul has been way up there on my list for a while now. One aspect in particular that I loved about Seoul was its mix of new and old architecture. There are some incredible structures throughout the city. Another is its delicious local food – I had Korean BBQ most nights, many bowls of kimchi stew as well as their infamous spicy fried chicken! This photo diary is slightly different to the ones in the past – I’ve split this into little segments, so you can read a little about what I saw…

CHEONGDAM-DONG

Images above were taken whilst strolling through the area Cheongdam-dong in Gangnam-du district. Cheongdam-dong’s Fashion Street (as it’s known) is an up-market area, with many luxury fashion houses scattered throughout. Cheongdam-dong has an abundance of beautiful contemporary structures. One of my favourite buildings is Maison Martin Margiela MM6′s fashion store (pictured last), which was previously home to Ann Deumelemeester flagship store for Seoul.

INSADONG ANTIQUE MARKET

The antique market in Insadong spans along one street with a few little stalls located on the smaller adjacent streets. This market was especially interesting. I love perusing old trinkets – I am a firm believer that someone else’s trash is someone else’s treasure. You can find anything and everything there, but I particularly loved looking at the masses of vintage toys and the beautiful weathered pottery and crockery. I could have spent hours and hours scouring the stalls had I not been strapped for time.

DOSAN PARK

Dosan Park is located right in the heart of the Sinsa-dong in luxurious Gangnam-du. The park was established in 1973 to commemorate the achievement of independence activist An Chang-Ho.

FISH MARKET

This is a really great experience for those of you who love seafood. Everything here is unbelievably fresh! You can buy the seafood you’d like to eat that day, bring it up to the restaurants upstairs, and for a fee, they cook it fresh for you then and there. I had some fresh sashimi, fresh oysters and got some prawns and fish fillets cooked in one of the restaurants. Besides that awesome experience, I really loved the way the stall owners arranged their produce – all the colours, shapes and textures looked so awesome together!

CHANGDEOKGUNG PALACE

Walking through Changdeokgung Palace is a really peaceful and scenic experience. It was built during the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1897) and is one of the ‘Five Grand Palaces’ built during that era. Most of the palaces were damaged during the Japanese occupation, so what is remaining is only a small portion of the palaces’ greatness.

DONGDAEMUN DESIGN PLAZA

This very special building was designed by infamous architect Zaha Hadid and Korean design studio Samoo. Dongdaemun is a large shopping area with many shopping centres filled to the brim with affordable fashion. So, if you go for the shopping please take some time to have a look at this magnificent structure – its shape and insane curvature will blow you mind!

SHOP : VELCRO SNEAKERS

SHOP-VELCRO-SNEAKERS

Sorry I’ve been a bit MIA lately, I have been working on a new project that I’ve very excited to tell you about. But until it launches, which will hopefully be in a few months, my lips are sealed! ;)

Here is a little shopping guide for something I have always had a soft spot for… velcro sneakers. There’s a sense of nostalgia here – they take me back to when I was a little kid and wore velcro sneakers. I just love the look of them, and they’re so easy to put on and take off – such a plus in my eyes. There have been quite a few styles released this season, but here are my top picks…

1 > Marni (Farfetch)

2 > Marni (Farfetch)

3 > Jil Sander Navy (Shoescribe)

4 > Jil Sander Navy (LuisaViaRoma)

5 > Kenzo (Farfetch)

6 > Marni (Farfetch)

7 > Marni (Farfetch)

I have my eye on the black and white Jil Sander pair (#4) – imagine all the shoe/sock combinations! :)
