(Niamh Clinton with her wonderful installation / Bags by Angel Jackson / Street style)

‘An installation using recycled materials creating a new purpose for items we utilise every day in retail, bringing this waste to light by using electricity.’

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending ‘Black Lights’; an intimate event held by S2 at their North Perth store. The installation was created by buyer Niamh Clinton. Using black plastic hangers and bicycle wheels, Clinton painstakingly constructed lampshades by hand, giving each a unique form. The wind on the night created a beautiful scene in the store. Drifting in from the open door, the breeze spun the lampshades slowly, with each lampshade casting it’s own shadows all around the space. It created a wonderful atmosphere for guests to relax, socialise and shop. I fell in love with the bags by British designer Angel Jackson; the Military Tiger Satchel and the Atomic Hexagon Bag. Those were but only a few of the eccentric things in S2.

During my visit to Hong Kong, a city whose architecture and urban landscape is predominantly grey, hints of bright colour would pop up every now and again. I found colour in graffiti, shop fronts and windows, neon signs and of course street style outfits. I fell in love with the contrast of the bright against the grey.
