PICA is the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts. ‘The annual PICA Salon is a contemporary reworking of the traditional Salon, the official exhibition of the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris that showed the works of pre-eminent painters of the day.’ Curated by Leigh Robb and Nadia Johnson, this year’s Salon titled ‘Epic Narratives’, features works by 19 local and national artists. The exhibition consists of entirely new works by the artists. The curators described that the word ‘epic’ brings to mind the extreme explorations during the early 20th century and also the adventurers who underwent the journeys. This year, the artists embraced the ‘concept of storytelling to articulate the politics of identity and communicate ideas about history, place and travel.’

‘Epic Narratives’ is a really great opportunity to see the amazing talent of some of Australia’s best artists. This isn’t one to be missed.

The exhibition runs from 5 July – 16 August 2015.

PICA: Perth Cultural Centre, James Street, Northbridge 6003.
