I was walking in the city the other day, when I spotted a very stylish older woman sporting a wonderful eclectic coat. It was such a gloomy overcast day, so in the sea of black and greys, her vibrant attire was something of an enigma. For those who don’t know me, I have a penchant for fabulously dressed older women and men. There is something so special about seeing such style and elegance tied in with years of grace and wisdom. That particular woman inspired me. When I got home, I began a search for quirky vintage coats.

Farfetch has a vast selection of vintage items and it was on there that I came across these coats by French designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac (JC de Castelbajac). Like the woman’s these coats are statement pieces; they’re loud and demand attention and I just love how fun they are. With a career spanning forty years, Castelbajac is best known for crossing the boundaries of fashion and art, having collaborated with some of the art world’s finest – Keith Haring, Hervé di Rosa and Jean-Michel Basquiat to name but a few.

I love searching the internet for vintage finds. Not necessarily to buy, but just to look and admire the designs of the past. I find it inspiring. You absorb everything you see and aspects of past designs can more often than not, influence your personal style in positive ways.
